The Albany Bike Rescue is offering bicycle maintenance classes designed to teach people how to maintain their bikes. Each class begins with a short introduction to the subject matter, a demonstration, and then an hour of hands-on, volunteer assisted, application of the lessons. Classes are offered once per week, and each course has three classes.
The beginner’s course covers an introduction to the shop, brakes, and shifting and derailleurs. Students learn the anatomy of a bicycle, the tools we use, how to change a tube, the basics of proper adjustment of brakes and the replacement of cables and housing, how to fine tune the shifting of gears.
All classes are free. Completion of classes not only helps you take better care of your own bike, but allows you to volunteer at the Rescue and help others.
